TRANSLATION & TRANSPOSITION OF SOUND: Site Calculus & Its Parametric Paraphernalia
Set on the grounds of Hastings Land Based Fishing Fleet | Port Hastings, the project concentrates on the geometry and arrangement of the site, posing algorithmical conditions in the way it has been surveyed. The programme concerns a ‘Boat Building & Integration Centre’ explored via the ‘Translation & Transposition’ of its physical objects and the somatic relationships between them, culminating into a speculative building approach. The project argues for the presence of imbued knowledge within the transposed colour coded transcript – dimensionalised through the derivation of a bespoke 271 tools and uses. This is a parametric interpretation of the object relationships established, with each tool embodying a numerical quantification of such relationships and synonymously becoming a repository of site’s hidden calculus – seeking to extract the typologies of structure it particularly proposes. The research methodology ‘Translation & Transposition’ and its toolset manifestation explored through the mediums of clay and light, sets forth the proposition that this particular procedure can become a tool widely used in architectural practices as part of the initial stages of design inception.

1:500 Parametric Toolset In Relation To Site Genealogy
A parametric interpretation of object relationships manifesting as a systemic derivation of a bespoke 271 tools and uses. The toolset is proposed as a device for exploring spatial interventions that are repositories of local site knowledge

Toolset & Its Imbued Numerical Value
A comprehensive catalogue of individual tools and their arithmetical values, expressive of how non-dimensional object relationships can be transposed into physical form, portraying site specific architectural suppositions through their respective use

1:200 Ceramic Tiles & Toolset Application
The ceramic tiles represent a replacement of the physicality of site objects, reimagining parts of site through spatial complexes that sprout from the numerical basis of the tools which otherwise catalyses the generative modelling process employed

Long Exposure Photography & Toolset Application
Pivotal to the research methodology was the use of light as a secondary medium, exploring an alternative approach to structural expression. Long exposure photography homogenised the value of multiple tools into one cohesive tectonic morphology

Structural Speculations Using Site Calculus – Material Interconnectedness
The drawing is a comprehensive amalgamation of all mediums and methods used to translate and transpose speculative architectural instances, presenting the toolset’s potential as a prominent arithmetical tool inhibiting site specific characteristics.
